24/09 - After deciding what music video we wish to reconstruct (Nirvana - Sliver) and deciding
the roles of our group, we will now begin to find locations where we can begin
production.
27/09- For simplicity we have decided to remain in college to film our reconstruction. This
meant finding a suitable location to replicate the setting of the original music video.
The choice of locations can be found in this post.
1/10 - We began to film our reconstruction today, which also meant gathered a few props from
around college such as a guitar, baby (a toy from health and social) and also constructing
a drum kit out of boxes and other materials. We decided to film in the green room
because it would be easy to find an image later and place it in the background rather
than completely constructing it ourselves. We managed to film a decent amount of
footage today, giving us more time for editing.
3/10 - Continuing our filming from Monday, we managed to finish everything. We were able to
replicate the camera movements as seen in the original video (not well, but we did it) and
now we are ready to edit next lesson.
4/10 - Before beginning editing today we needed to organise our videos into our own folder on
the computer, but after an error with the camera and dates, the footage was mistakenly
deleted meaning we need to re-shoot a good amount of our footage.
Lunch time we decided to get back together to try and re-create what we had previously
done however with a lack of time we didn't manage to finish. Although, we have created
a second reconstruction of another media text in the little time we had. This media text
is the Diary Milk advertisement featuring the Gorilla on the drums playing along to Phil
Collins.
5/10 - Today we have got together one last time to film what is missing from our reconstruction.
Luckily we have got everything finished and a little bit of editing was done. The footage
is not great but it has helped us all understand some flaws that may occur when filming
our main production piece.
8/10 - Beginning our main lesson of editing today and we got a very decent amount of work
done. Syncing the lyrics up with the mouth movements was not as challenge as
suspected, however trimming everything down and working out where everything went
within the video did prove fairly difficult. We gathered the image for the green screen but
it does not look as effective as we had hoped. With the camera moving , therefore the
actors moving, the background is clearly unrealistic as it is perfectly still. Editing is
complete for both the reconstructions and although the Phil Collins was not our original
idea it is certainly our favourite.
15/10- After finalising the original idea of reconstructing the Nirvana video, I decided it would
also be beneficial to edit and fully reconstruct the second media text, the diary milk
advertisement, and after some time editing the sync with the drums have improved
greatly as well as adding in some graphics try and replicate what was seen in the
original.
